  1. Birdy pick of the week: luxe vs less

What do you think of high street knock-offs? Is it fair game? Or is it just something that we take for granted these days? I have to confess that I love a good ‘luxe vs less’ magazine feature, but I draw the line at high-street chains pinching the work of small independent designers. Does that make me a hypocrite?

Anyway, I stumbled across these two frocks quite independently of each other, and I was going to run them as separate birdy finds. But side-by-side, you can see the extraordinary similarities. Over to you – what do you think? Would you be tempted to buy the Oasis version?

Right: Oasis bird print dress, £45 from Selfridges.

Oh, it’s close but at lease they had the decency to make some differences.

Did you see the shocking copies of Tatty Divine by Claire’s? That made me very angry.

I actually prefer the shape of the Oasis version but that is crazily similar – they must have the same fabric suppliers and obviously a mole at P&J Sister. Must be rather boring as an in-house designer somewhere like Oasis, just having to reproduce what other niche producers are doing.

I do not think that it is right to copy others. I remember going into Target years ago and it looked to me like they had knocked off Cath Kidston and it made me really angry.

I think it’s silly! They’re creative enough to come up with something new and cute, surely? I know people want pretty things for less, but they don’t have to be remakes. Having said that, I do love a birdy dress 🙂

I’m not a fan of knock-offs but I must say I actually prefer the cheaper version!
